The 1964 Sunbeam Tiger is a legendary British-American sports car born from the collaboration between the British Rootes Group and American racing icon Carroll Shelby. Conceived as a high-performance, compact roadster, the car dropped a hefty 4.3L (260 cu in) Ford V8 into the chassis of the relatively docile Sunbeam Alpine. The result was a classic "sleeper" capable of reaching 60 mph in under 8 seconds with a top speed of over 118 mph.
Production & History- The Shelby Touch: Following his success with the AC Cobra, Carroll Shelby was enlisted to engineer the V8 shoehorned into the Alpine chassis. Actual production was contracted to Jensen Motors in West Bromwich, England, rather than Shelby's American facilities.
