Description

Chassis No. WBAEJ1341YAH60144

Firmly rooted in its heritage, with lines recalling the 507, the brand's most coveted collectible, the BMW Z8 ('Z' stands for Zukunft, German for “future'') was unmistakably a statement of intent for the road ahead. First unveiled at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show as the Z07 concept car, it returned two years later at the 1999 Frankfurt Motor Show in a form remarkably close to the production car.

While its power came from the M5's engine, reworked by BMW M Motorsport-a 4.9-liter V8 producing 400 PS, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and capable of reaching 250 km/h-its chassis was entirely bespoke, built around an exceptionally modern and lightweight 230-kg aluminum space frame, with aluminum body panels bolted directly to the structure.

That combination of beauty and engineering inevitably caught Hollywood's attention. In 1999, the Z8 appeared in The World Is Not Enough, driven by James Bond, played by Pierce Brosnan-a particularly notable appearance given the franchise's long-standing association with the renowned British marque, Aston Martin.

Finished in Black over Black, this example left BMW's Munich factory in May 2000, destined to shine among the finest at the dawn of the new millennium. Ordered through United States dealership Bill Jacobs BMW in Schwarz II, with a matching Black leather interior, the roadster arrived in California with its first owner toward the end of the summer, fresh from claiming his seventh Wimbledon title. Pete Sampras, the world's No. 1-ranked tennis player for six consecutive seasons from 1993 through 1998, enjoyed his Z8 sparingly through 2015, adding just 3,585 miles to the odometer. Its subsequent owners have collectively added fewer than 200 miles to date.

Its clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, documenting its life in the United States, records regular emissions inspections, as well as a major service performed by BMW and Lamborghini of Houston, before the car was exported to France.

Its French chapter began with none other than the king of Parisian nightlife, creator of the Queen Club on the Champs-Élysées and owner of Castel, among other establishments, as well as a passionate polo player in Chantilly. Equally versed in the glitter and glamour of the spotlight and the refined elegance of tradition, he would care for the Z8 meticulously for a decade before passing it to its current owner in Germany, who had the car undergo its KÜS inspection in July 2026, valid through July 2028.

The car's ownership history is continuous and well documented, with a copy of Pete Sampras' registration, the transfer from Sampras to his French owner, the bill of sale and French import documentation, and the subsequent transfer that brought the car across the Rhine.

This BMW Z8, such an important roadster in the marque's history, is today presented with an exceptionally low 3,933 original miles (a mere 6,329 km), a striking color combination, and a continuous, illustrious ownership history. It brings together all the hallmarks of a highly desirable collectible, while remaining a powerful roadster with a manual transmission, offering the pure pleasure of open-air driving.
