  • Beautifully preserved dark blue interior
  • Very good overall body condition

  • Recent suspension, braking and cooling-system expenditure evidenced

The third-generation Toyota Supra, internally known as the A70, arrived in 1986 and represented an important turning point for Toyota's flagship sports car. No longer sharing its identity with the Celica, the Supra became a model in its own right, retaining the traditional front-engined, rear-wheel-drive layout while introducing a far more sophisticated chassis and unmistakably 1980s grand touring styling. With its long bonnet, pop-up headlights, muscular proportions and straight-six power, the Mk3 has increasingly found its place amongst the most recognisable Japanese performance cars of its era.

This 1989 example is powered by Toyota's naturally aspirated 3.0-litre, 24-valve straight-six engine and, importantly, is paired with the desirable five-speed manual gearbox. With around 200bhp when new, these were accomplished high-speed grand tourers, combining strong performance with the refinement and engineering for which Toyota was becoming increasingly renowned.

Finished in white and showing 60,603 miles, this example presents extremely well overall. The bodywork appears to be in very good condition and retains all the classic details that make the A70 so distinctive, including its pop-up headlights, rear spoiler and original-style alloy wheels.

The car has previously been repainted and, while it looks very smart overall, the quality of the paint finish is not to the standard that the rest of the car arguably deserves. There are imperfections visible on closer inspection, several of which have been deliberately photographed, and a future owner may therefore wish to factor improvement of the paintwork into their plans for the car. Importantly, this shouldn't detract from what appears to be a very good and straight-looking example overall.

Inside is perhaps where this Supra impresses most. The dark blue cloth interior has survived remarkably well, with the seats, dashboard, door trims and centre console all presenting beautifully. It remains wonderfully evocative of a late-1980s Japanese GT and appears refreshingly unmodified, retaining its original-style Supra steering wheel, instrumentation and switchgear.

The history file is not particularly extensive, although there is useful evidence of more recent maintenance. Paperwork supplied with the car includes expenditure on suspension components, including front and rear shock absorbers, together with invoices relating to braking and cooling-system components. Previous Northern Ireland test certificates also accompany the car and provide additional mileage history.

Most importantly, we're informed that the Supra drives superbly, and the combination of the naturally aspirated straight-six, five-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel-drive chassis gives it exactly the sort of analogue character that has made cars of this generation increasingly sought after.

The car is currently pictured wearing registration GIW 6666, however this registration is not included in the sale. The Supra will instead be supplied on registration GDZ 6677.

With a particularly well-preserved interior and the desirable manual transmission, this represents an appealing opportunity to acquire an increasingly collectible Mk3 Supra. It isn't being presented as a concours example and the paintwork leaves scope for improvement, but as a handsome, usable and reportedly excellent-driving example of Toyota's increasingly appreciated A70 generation, there is a great deal to like.
