Description

Chassis No. SCFAE62363K800084
DB AR1 No. 084 of 99

Unveiled at the 2003 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Aston Martin DB AR1 stands among the most memorable results of the marque's long partnership with Zagato. Conceived specifically for American buyers and built upon the DB7 platform, the AR1, short for American Roadster 1, wears a larger front grille, widened rear fenders, and Zagato's signature double bubble roofline motif, its steeply raked windshield lending both a sleeker profile and improved aerodynamics.

As a true open roadster it forgoes a folding top altogether, relying instead on a minimalist tonneau cover to protect the cabin when parked. To sidestep the type approval hurdles that had complicated the coupe-bodied DB7 Zagato's path into the American market, Aston Martin built the AR1 on the DB7 Volante's convertible chassis. Beneath the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12 producing 440 horsepower, paired here with the sporting six-speed manual transmission most buyers preferred over the optional five-speed automatic. All 99 serialized examples sold out swiftly following the car's debut.

This collectible example wears its Stronsay Silver paintwork over a Claret Red Bridge of Weir leather interior with a scant 240 miles at cataloging, a figure that speaks to a life of careful preservation. Sold new in the Atlanta, Georgia area, it remained with its original owner until September 2009, when it was exported to Germany, before passing to Belgium in 2015, where it has since resided. Despite very little use, this DB AR1 has been meticulously maintained and serviced regularly. Its last service was by the official Aston Martin dealer of Antwerp, Belgium, in March 2026 at just 240 miles (387 kilometers), which is the car's current odometer reading at the time of cataloging. It is offered with its original books, tools, two keys, and numbered car cover.

With only 99 examples built and this car standing as the 84th produced, the DB AR1 remains among the rarest creations of the Aston Martin and Zagato partnership. Its naturally aspirated V12, open top form, and coveted six-speed manual transmission combine for a visceral driving experience, while the double bubble silhouette keeps it instantly recognizable among Zagato's coveted body of work. Offered here in exceptional, near-new condition, this DB AR1 stands as one of the most collectible examples of the distinctive early 2000s Aston Martin - Zagato partnership.
