Another great find, this XKR comes to us from a long-term private collection and is being offered as an exciting recommissioning project. Having been standing for the past few years, it has recently been brought out of storage and, encouragingly, starts remarkably easily. The supercharged V8 settles into life readily and sounds absolutely superb.
Introduced in 2006, the X150-generation XK marked a new era for Jaguar's grand tourer. Designed under Ian Callum and constructed around an advanced aluminium structure, it combined relatively low weight with the traditional Jaguar ingredients of a long bonnet, sweeping roofline and rear-wheel drive. In XKR form, however, the elegant GT gained a much more serious performance edge.
There is plenty more to like here too. The Jaguar has had just three owners from new and its odometer displays only 38,740 miles, making this an intriguing proposition for somebody looking for an XKR to sympathetically bring back to its best.
Finished in a pale metallic colour over a light leather interior, the XKR remains a particularly handsome car. Its more purposeful specification is immediately apparent through the bonnet vents, mesh grille, large alloy wheels and subtle rear spoiler, while the overall bodywork remains surprisingly presentable considering the car's period in storage.
Naturally, there are areas requiring attention. There are a few small dents and age-related marks around the body, although nothing that appears particularly dramatic from our inspection. The finish across the bonnet has suffered from weather exposure and now displays some colour deterioration when compared with the surrounding panels. Cosmetic attention here would make a significant difference to the overall presentation.
The interior is complete and should also respond very well to some sympathetic attention. The light leather seats, contrasting dashboard and extensive wood veneer remain in place and give the cabin the luxurious feel expected of an XKR. It does, however, require a thorough clean following its period in storage.
The most obvious interior issue is the headlining, which has dropped and has been temporarily tacked back into position. This will require proper replacement or refurbishment. The driver's door is also not currently closing correctly and will need investigation.
Mechanically, the initial signs are particularly encouraging. Despite having stood for a number of years, the Jaguar starts readily, runs surprisingly well and sounds excellent. That shouldn't be confused with the car being ready for immediate road use, however. Its last MOT expired in 2023 and we would strongly recommend a thorough recommissioning before it returns to the road, including inspection of the braking system, tyres, fluids and other safety-critical components.
For that reason, the car must not be driven away from the auction venue, and the successful bidder will need to arrange suitable transportation.
There is currently no V5C accompanying the vehicle, so the successful bidder will also need to apply to the DVLA for a replacement registration document.
What makes HN58 BVO so appealing is the quality of the starting point. This isn't a dismantled restoration or an incomplete car arriving in boxes. It is a handsome, apparently complete three-owner XKR with fewer than 39,000 miles displayed, which has simply spent the last few years sitting as part of a collection.
The fact that it fires readily into life is an encouraging bonus. Give it a proper mechanical recommissioning, sort the driver's door and headlining, thoroughly detail the interior and address the cosmetic imperfections, and there is every possibility of revealing a very attractive low-mileage XKR underneath.
With the X150 now firmly entering modern-classic territory, the combination of elegant Ian Callum styling and a supercharged V8 makes these cars increasingly interesting to enthusiasts. This particular example adds low ownership, low displayed mileage and the appeal of being a genuine collection find rather than a polished-up retail car.
