Description

Estimated Price: £14,000 - £18,000

Introduced in 1984, the Mk2 GTI found its true voice a couple of years later with the 16V, whose twin-cam cylinder head lifted output well beyond the eight-valve car and made a performance benchmark of the already lauded GTI marque

Power comes from the engaging KR-code 1.8-litre 16-valve engine, producing around 137bhp when new, good for 60mph in around eight seconds and on to a top speed of around 130mph, driving through a five-speed manual gearbox with the traditional ‘golf ball’ gear knob

This exceptional example, finished in vibrant Tornado Red with classic GTI check cloth seats, has covered just under 40,700 miles and is offered from 13 years of cherished ownership with just two previous keepers in its 37-year lifetime

Supplied new to a Mr Niven of Wakefield on 31/03/1989 by Liverdale Motors of Pontefract, it's accompanied by its new vehicle sales invoice showing a total of £11,450 and its original vehicle order form listing mud flaps and carpet mats as added accessories

The impressive history file also contains a number of previous MOTs and Tax discs, invoices for servicing and maintenance, a Golf GTI handbook and its original VAG service book, showing 13 stamps. Serviced by our vendor since 2013 with receipts and photographs on file. Fresh cambelt in June 2026

Increasingly desirable, the Mk2 Golf GTI is often better regarded than the revolutionary Mk1 it replaced, faster, more comfortable and more modern, and the superb example offered here is arguably the one you had always hoped to find
